Haley Copes

Haley Copes is a recent graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a concentration in Digital Media Production. In her time at Southern, she spent just as much time working on productions outside of school as she did in. Her documentary short, Miscellaneous Romance won Runner-Up in the student competition at the New Haven Documentary Film Festival and took the prize for best Student Documentary at the Southern Connecticut University Film Festival (SCUFF). The same night of SCUFF, Haley’s experimental short, SILENT NIGHT won Best Avant Garde Film. For two summers in a row she competed in the 48 Hour Film competition, where both films she was a part of writing, A SLICE OF CHAOS and ABORTION PARTY, received awards. Haley’s nontraditional humor is apparent through her series of short films and documentaries, but most notably in her recent short film that she wrote and directed in 2019, D4. Today, she is the Advertising Coordinator of the New Haven Documentary Film Festival, and the latest documentary she produced and directed, THE ROCK LOTTERY,  is an official selection in the 2020 catalogue. Copes will be working with Gorman Bechard on a feature-length documentary IN THE SHADOW OF THE CROSS which tells the story of Holy Land USA, the abandoned religious theme park in their hometown of Waterbury, Connecticut.
